Three Orlando firms team under Columbia, Md., company to build virtual reality trainer for the U.S. Marine Corps and its Amphibious Combat Vehicle training program

ORLANDO, Fla. and COLUMBIA, Md. – A consortium of companies under the direction of VR Training has completed a contract that will better prepare the next generation of Marines on the U.S. Marine Corps’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle. The rapid prototype for the virtual reality-based Driver Training System simulator will debut at the industry’s premiere trade show, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, Education Conference, in late November. That will allow the team to show off the project to some of the military’s top brass to continue to receive feedback and develop on its core build.

We look forward to sharing more about the project with the community.

The simulator for the U.S. Marine Corps is meant to move training techniques for the U.S. military forward, using the latest technology and capabilities as the Warfighter strives for a modern approach to its work. The project was a collaboration between VR Training in Columbus, Md., and three Orlando companies: Theory Studios, 302 Interactive, and Talon Simulations. “We could not have asked for a better team to work on this important project for the Warfighter,” said Neil Levin, CEO of VR Training. “That we could bring several companies from one of the world capitals of modeling, simulation, and training together speaks volumes about the community and our network. That this was for the Warfighter meant even more to us as a team. While this project is still in a competitive prototyping phase and final selection by the government is still pending.” “This project has been one of the more fulfilling in my career,” said David Andrade, CEO of Theory Studios, whose past credits include animation work for Disney, Universal Studios, and Sesame Street. “In the past, I have worked on Hollywood productions, but to be able to contribute to a project of this depth and importance has been an incredible experience.”

In the final stage of the project, the team brought the simulators to Camp Pendleton in California for on-site guidance and feedback. “Our visit to the facility was eye-opening,” said 302 Interactive COO Robert “Bobby” Torres. “To experience their professionalism and see exactly how they will deploy our solution helped us make it even more tailored to their needs. Now, getting a chance to show it off at the world’s premiere modeling, simulation, and training conference will be huge.” “Our motion simulator has shown its versatility during this project with the U.S. Marine Corps,” said Talon Simulations CEO Brandon Naids, whose company also provides its product to the theme park industry. “It has been an honor to work on this, and we are particularly proud of the positive feedback we received from the Marines this was meant for.”
